The incident occurred during the first quarter of Saturday night’s game when Davis was inadvertently struck in the left eye by Warriors rookie Trayce Jackson-Davis while attempting a layup. Despite initially trying to continue playing, Davis experienced swelling and blurred vision in his left eye, necessitating medical attention.

Darvin Ham provided insights into Davis’s condition, explaining that medical staff attended to him immediately after he left the court and continued to monitor him throughout halftime. The focus remains on Davis’s well-being, with updates expected soon regarding his availability for the Lakers’ upcoming game against the Hawks on Monday.

“I think he got an elbow to the left eye. Wasn’t able to see out of that left eye, vision blurred,” Ham told reporters after the Lakers’ 128-121 loss to the Warriors. “Looking at the doctors, they were working on him from the time he left the floor and went back to the training room through halftime. The biggest thing is just making sure he’s OK and we’ll get an update on him pretty soon.”

LeBron James addressed the impact of Davis’s absence on the team, acknowledging the challenge of adjusting their game plan without a key contributor. Losing Davis mid-game disrupted their preparation and highlighted his significance to the Lakers’ strategy.

“When you’ve been preparing for a couple of days with our prep and you lose a key component to your team in one quarter, we tried to pick it up, but, obviously, there’s some things we can’t do without AD,” LeBron said.

Guard D’Angelo Russell emphasized the team’s unfamiliarity with playing without Davis, noting his consistent presence throughout the season. Despite the setback, Russell commended the effort of his teammates in stepping up to fill the void left by Davis’s absence.

Although Davis has faced criticism for his injury record in the past, he has demonstrated durability this season by appearing in 65 out of 69 games for the Lakers.
