At Wednesday night’s NBA game between the Memphis Grizzlies and the New Orleans Pelicans, Ja Morant experienced a touching moment with a fan. After the Grizzlies’ game at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, the guard gave his game-used Nike shoes to a small child.
The fan was carrying a yellow banner, which described his battle with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare soft tissue disease, before he met his hero. The poster included Morant’s uniform number, 12, along with his treatments, which included surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy.
The Nike Kyrie 1 All-Star shoes were made available in February 2015. This was Irving’s first trademark All-Star shoe, featuring a gray mesh top, black Swoosh, and a partially speckled ice blue midsole that was inspired by the City Hall Subway Station in New York.
After missing one game because of ankle pain, Morant made his comeback during the game. The Grizzlies were beaten by the Pelicans despite his game-high 36 points.
Outside of the basketball court, Morant isn’t afraid to flaunt his love for athletic footwear and fashion designers. He has been seen sporting shoes from Dior, Balenciaga, and Louis Vuitton.
Thanks to his new collaboration with Beats by Dre, which was revealed earlier this week, the guard is expanding the scope of his fashion sense. Morant and the electronics company collaborated on an interactive event that took place within the well-known Roblox game Dunking Simulator. A non-playable character in Roblox, Morant will serve as the host of several quests. A basketball court with a dark mode and many dunking tasks that gain in-game items like headphones, a necklace, and a bear coat are among the features of the experience.
