Stephen Curry Champions Black Designers in Fashion Industry

In a bid to tackle the racial disparity prevalent in the fashion world, Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has embarked on a mission to support emerging Black designers. Teaming up with Rakuten and the Black in Fashion Council (BiFC), Curry is utilizing his platform to spotlight and promote talented Black designers by incorporating their creations into his pre-game ‘tunnel walks.’

The initiative, launched before the 2024 NBA season, operates with BiFC selecting deserving Black labels and designers, Curry showcasing their pieces during his tunnel walks, and Rakuten facilitating fans’ access to these designs through its shopping platform known for cash backs and rewards. By leveraging his influence, Curry aims to advocate for change and amplify the voices of Black designers within the fashion industry.

This endeavor stems from Curry’s commitment to supporting Black designers, dating back to the 2022 NBA playoffs when he exclusively wore looks from Black-owned brands and designers throughout the entire postseason. Reflecting on this, Curry highlighted the importance of showcasing diverse talent and representation within the fashion world.

For the current season’s tunnel looks, Curry is set to feature designs from notable Black designers, including Advisry by Keith Herron, Head of State by Taofeek Zabijako, Savant Studios by Michael Graham, Des Pierrot by Deslyn Pierrot, and Pierre Blanc by Paul Richards. Notably, Curry made a stylish statement on opening night with an ensemble from Pierre Blanc, showcasing his ongoing commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in fashion.
