Warriors’ Klay Thompson Making Significant Strides After Achilles Injury

It is said that Klay Thompson is returning to full health after missing the previous two seasons due to injury. He still has a ways to go, though, as he won’t be available for the season’s opening. Steve Kerr commented as follows regarding Klay’s current state of development:

Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson (11) talks with head coach Steve Kerr during a break in the action against the Sacramento Kings in the second quarter at the Golden 1 Center.
Not quite in full contact. but things are starting to move on the court. He’s still a long way from actually participating in a 5-on-5 basketball game. However, there’s a significant step when you can resume running with the Achilles. It’s a significant psychological lift. The remainder of your body begins to function, and you begin to experience the aches and pains that, after a period of inactivity, truly feel good. That’s where he is.

This is significant news for the Warriors because Klay hasn’t participated in a single NBA play since tearing his ACL in the 2019 Finals against the Raptors. He was anticipated to make a comeback to the field this season, but an offseason workout resulted in a torn achilles.

Prior to this, Klay was regarded as a resilient player who hardly ever missed a game due to an injury. Averaging 21.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists while shooting 40% from three-point range, he was in the prime of his career. With the addition of James Wiseman and the other players who have made significant contributions—Juan Toscano-Anderson, Andrew Wiggins, and Jordan Poole—the Warriors’ potential is limitless if Klay can return to his pre-injury form.

Additionally, Steve Kerr said, “Klay’s current breakthrough has been a result of the offseason’s productivity.” He is running on the court and is in a great mood. We had a conversation last week. Simply put, he has an entirely different perspective. There is hope for a better future.
