Rajon Rondo’s incredible 16-year NBA career has been formally ended as a result of his All the Smoke podcast interview.
After joining Rondo to win an NBA Championship in 2020, LeBron James was in a good position to evaluate Rondo’s career. “I was very lucky to get to team up with him,” stated James. Rondo played for nine different teams and appeared in 957 games during his career.
Rajon Rondo announced his retirement from the NBA after 16 years of play, and LeBron James honored him.
Despite being a four-time All-Star and two-time NBA champion, Rondo hasn’t played for the Cleveland Cavaliers or the Los Angeles Lakers since the 2021–2022 season.
After stints with the Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings, Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, and Los Angeles Clippers, the 38-year-old officially announced the end of his career.
After the Lakers defeated the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday, James had this to say about Rondo: “One of the best players I ever played with.” James’ words were obtained by ESPN.”He was a fierce competitor throughout my career when he was in Boston, and obviously [we] had our battles when I was in Cleveland and then going to Miami,” the man said. “Obviously, his IQ is out of this world, and I was very lucky to get to team up with him at that point here when I was in LA.”
Over the course of a remarkable career, Rondo averaged 9.8 points, 7.9 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.6 steals in 957 games.
In addition to such outstanding stats, Rondo won two NBA titles with the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers in 2007–08 and 2019–20, respectively, and recorded the most thefts per game in the 2009–10, 2011–12, 2012–13, and 2015–16 campaigns.
When Rondo was questioned about whether his career was over on the
podcast, to which he answered, “Yes. Yes, I’m through. I am unable to. I would prefer to be with my children.”What a moment, I never took anything for granted while I was playing the game.
“I loved every minute of it, and I appreciate the brotherhood that I was able to share and bond and grow with over the years.”This game has taught me so much, and it has shaped me into the man I am today.
I often tell people that this wasn’t a goal or a dream of mine: “I was able to focus, maintain discipline, and avoid partying a lot while in college.” However, the sacrifice I made to achieve my goals in life was worthwhile.”
