Carlos Sainz Engages in Talks with Multiple Formula 1 Teams for 2025 Season

Sainz: Now time to "speed up" talks to find 2025 F1 seat

Carlos Sainz, the talented Spanish Formula 1 driver, has revealed that he is actively engaged in discussions with various teams regarding a potential drive for the 2025 season.

With his current contract set to expire, Sainz aims to secure his future in the sport sooner rather than later, acknowledging the buzz surrounding the driver market.

Sainz’s impressive performances in the early stages of the 2024 campaign, including a podium finish at the Bahrain Grand Prix and a remarkable win at the Australian Grand Prix, have garnered attention from several teams seeking to bolster their lineups for the upcoming season.

Carlos Sainz empieza a perder la paciencia: «Ha llegado el momento de acelerar todo»

“I’m talking to a few [teams] because that’s what my management team and myself should do when I don’t have a job for next year yet,” Sainz told reporters in Japan. “So we’re talking to pretty much all of them.”

Notably, Mercedes and Red Bull have emerged as potential destinations for the 29-year-old driver, with speculation heightened by Max Verstappen’s potential move to Mercedes.

Speaking to reporters in Japan, Sainz disclosed that negotiations are underway, overseen by his cousin and manager Carlos Onoro, as he explores his options for the future.

“It’s just a matter of going more into detail and seeing the more realistic options, and what are the best options for me and for my future. I don’t have any news for you, nothing to say here today. The only thing I would say is that it’s time now to speed everything up a bit and hopefully we can get it sorted sooner rather than later.”

While no concrete decisions have been made, Sainz emphasized the need to expedite the process in order to reach a resolution.

Sainz’s focus remains on his current campaign with Ferrari, where he aims to close the gap to Red Bull in the constructors’ championship.

Carlos: “Suzuka is my favourite track”

Despite a strong showing in Australia, Sainz acknowledges the need for further upgrades to the Ferrari RB20 to compete consistently with the pace-setting Red Bull.

“It’s true to say that in Australia, we looked very strong. But I think normally in these cases, you just need to get the average of the first few races,” Sainz added. “And I think the average is we’re still a couple of tenths off the Red Bull and we need an upgrade especially for Suzuka to fight them.”

“I think the job that the team has done this year is extremely good because the car is a very good step forward. It’s just we need more of the same if we want to go for the wins at tracks like maybe Japan and there is no big upgrade coming here.

Carlos Sainz may not be underrated any longer but he does deserve a seat worthy of his talent

“We have a very small thing in the car at the rear, but it will come later in the season and I hope that is another good step in the same direction.”

While Sainz remains realistic about the challenges ahead, he commends Ferrari for the progress made with the car this season. However, he underscores the necessity of continuous improvement to challenge for victories at circuits like Suzuka, emphasizing the importance of forthcoming upgrades to the car’s performance.

As negotiations continue behind the scenes, Sainz remains committed to delivering strong performances on track and contributing to Ferrari’s championship aspirations.
