Before Monday’s NBA Finals game, a man posing as Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson said he had been barred from the team’s home court. He had filmed himself entering San Francisco’s Chase Center and spending ten minutes “shooting around.”
The individual, known on social media as BigDawsTv, shared a picture of what he claimed to be a letter that banned him. The letter, addressed to Dawson Gurley and purportedly signed by the vice president of security for the Warriors, called the actions illegal and against Chase Center and NBA regulations.
“You are banned, indefinitely, from attending any future NBA, WNBA, G League or 2K League games, or any concert and or event held at Chase Center,” the letter reads. “Any violation of you being found at any of these properties, whether ticketed or not, you will be subject to arrest for criminal trespass.”
Requests for comment were not immediately answered by Chase Center or the Warriors.
However, the Warriors said in a statement to the San Francisco Chronicle that someone “falsely impersonated a Warriors player in a deliberate attempt to access unauthorized areas within Chase Center” and was banned from Kaiser Permanente Arena as well as the arena for life.
Gurley uploaded a video to YouTube showing him going past security and entering the stadium while wearing Warriors gear. Following the basketball game, a woman is spotted asking for his credentials.
He responds, “No, they just let us in.” In addition, he says as he is led from the facility, “I was just looking for the team store.”
Gurley bemoaned the suspension in a string of tweets, claiming he was losing $10,000 on season tickets and that many “incompetent” security checks had been skipped.
