Since beginning his second ban of the calendar year, Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant hasn’t been hearing much from. However, fans were given an update when tattoo artist Andres Ortega offered a comprehensive look at Morant’s new ink.
The remarkable work of art features cards, dice, and two trademark Nike sneaker emblems. Morant’s signature emblem is located near his left shoulder. The small of his back pays tribute to Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, with the iconic Sheath logo, “24,” and “mentality.”
Prior to the launch of his eponymous sneaker brand earlier this year, Morant frequently wore old Nike Kobe shoes. There is no disputing Bryant’s influence on Morant and much of the NBA. It has now been immortalized on Morant’s back.
Bryant’s trademark sneaker logo, like his pump-fakes and footwork, is instantly recognizable. Bryant’s Nike logo was originally seen on the Nike Huarache 2K5. The design consists of six geometric forms akin to a samurai sword sheath.
Fans of the 2003 film Kill Bill: Volume 1 will know the Nike Kobe logo. Uma Thurman’s character had a similar sign carved on her blade. It’s difficult to assume that the movie did not influence the design of the iconic sneaker logo.
Morant first previewed his own Nike logo in December 2022, just before releasing the Nike Ja 1 on Christmas Day. The design features the letters “J” and “A” and resembles an upside-down triangle, similar to Bryant’s logo.
NBA fans will have to wait 25 games into next season to see Morant return to the court. However, it is wonderful to have updates on the budding rising star in the meanwhile. Share your views on Morant’s sneaker-inspired tattoos with @FanNationKicks on social media.
