A “iconic” roster has been assembled by Team USA for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
LeBron James, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant have been named Team USA’s captains for the 2017 Summer Games, as they look to win another gold medal in the men’s basketball event.
Bam Adebayo, Devin Booker, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Haliburton, Jrue Holiday, Kawhi Leonard, and Jayson Tatum are also on the men’s national team roster.
The lineup is completed by James’ Los Angeles Lakers teammate Anthony Davis and Minnesota Timberwolves standout Anthony Edwards. Between them, these athletes have won ten Olympic gold medals and made 11 trips to the Olympics.
Steve Kerr, the head coach of the Golden State Warriors, will lead the team at the July 26–August 11 Paris Olympics.
“My staff and I are honored to coach this amazing group of players in our quest to win Olympic gold in Paris,” Kerr stated in a statement. “We plan to represent USA Basketball with the utmost class and we hope to make our country proud.”
The squad was carefully chosen by Grant Hill, managing director of the USA Basketball Men’s National Team, and was formally unveiled on Wednesday, April 17.
In a statement, Hill stated, “I’m grateful to these 12 men for their commitment to represent USA Basketball.” “Some of the top basketball players in the world are from the United States, so I’m grateful for the overwhelming enthusiasm in joining this team. Although arriving to this conclusion wasn’t a simple procedure, it was enjoyable to go through the steps involved.
In a Tuesday morning interview with TODAY, Hill stated, “We’re giving ourselves a chance to win with the talent we have.” It will be exciting, he continued. It will be difficult. It won’t be simple. We regard every other team with the utmost respect. Nonetheless, this roster will undoubtedly become legendary.
Indeed, iconic. Twelve former NBA All-Stars, four NBA MVPs, and six NBA champions in all are on the roster. While James, the all-time best scorer in the NBA, has only earned two gold medals in his Olympic career, Durant also has three gold medals going into the Summer Games.
Following the team’s unveiling on Tuesday morning, USA Basketball took to social media to celebrate the incredibly talented squad.
“What would happen if one team had all of our best basketball players?” USA Basketball shared content on X, the former name for Twitter. “Leave the what-ifs behind.”
“The stars align in the City of Light,” the company stated in a another post, hinting at the team’s potential future in Paris.
