There have been a few players in NBA history who are infamously bad at making free throws. Shaquille O’Neal is one name that springs to mind, but he insisted on making them when it mattered. Rudy Gobert is perhaps one of the worst free throw shooters in the NBA today. The center for the Minnesota Timberwolves has had a few viral moments while having a respectable shooting %. Against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday, Rudy Gobert attempted another airball at the free throw line, and Ja Morant couldn’t contain his laughter.
Earlier in the season, Rudy Gobert attempted an airball at the free throw line against the Los Angeles Clippers, and the Clippers bench responded in a manner akin to that of Ja Morant and the Grizzlies. Rudy Gobert is shooting 64.2 percent overall this season from the free throw line.
Over his career, Gobert has averaged 63.9 percent of his shots from the free throw line. That’s not too bad for someone who doesn’t shoot guns. In fact, Gobert has only missed fewer than 62 percent of his free throws in his 11-year NBA career. That was both his first and third season.
It’s important to note that when the Clippers bench responded that way to Gobert’s airball free attempt, the Wolves ultimately prevailed in the game against them. Nearly halfway through the fourth quarter, the Wolves and Grizzlies were leading by a narrow margin as of publication.
