Stephen Curry to Launch New ‘Sports Superheroes’ Graphic Novel Series — Exclusive Cover Reveal

The basketball player’s media company will publish graphic novels that feature prominent figures in the sports world.

In addition to being a well-known children’s book author and a devoted family man, basketball player Stephen Curry is now the lead character in his own graphic novel!

Penguin Workshop has exclusively revealed to PEOPLE that Sports Superheroes Volume #1: Stephen Curry, written by Josh Bycel and Rich Korson and illustrated by Damion Scott, will be out in August.

The book is the first in a graphic novel series about legendary athletes. In collaboration with Unanimous Publishing, Curry’s multimedia company, Sports Superheroes is being released.

Co-founders of Unanimous Media Curry and Erick Peyton expressed their excitement about partnering with Penguin Young Readers on their next project, Sports Superheroes Volume #1: Stephen Curry, through Unanimous Publishing. 

“We hope that reading about their favorite athletes in these books will not only excite and cultivate a love of reading in children, but also serve as an inspiration for them to aim high and fulfill their dreams.”

Curry, “encourages young readers to believe in themselves and teach them about the power of being underrated, no matter what struggles they are up against,” in his picture books I Have a Superpower and I Am Extraordinary, the publisher said in a statement.

Through his publishing ventures and nonprofit Eat. Learn. Play, Curry hopes to strengthen his dedication to raising literacy rates and expanding access to books that are appropriate for different cultures with this new endeavor.

Readers aged 8 to 12 are the target audience for this graphic novel series, which the publisher claims will center on “Curry’s message of not letting anyone underestimate your greatness”. It will include Bycel and Korson’s and Scott’s illustrations of Curry’s life and past.

With 15 years of experience with the Golden State Warriors, Curry is a four-time NBA champion and two-time MVP. He holds the record for the most 3-pointers made in NBA history, was the first player to hit 100 3-pointers in the NBA Finals, and was the all-time highest scorer in Golden State Warriors history. He was also the first individual in NBA history to be unanimously chosen as the league’s Most Valuable Player.

2018 saw the founding of Unanimous Media, a multimedia firm “rooted in the mission to inspire and uplift audiences through authentic storytelling centered around family, faith, and sports,” by Curry and Erick Peyton, the publisher said in a statement.

Penguin Workshop will publish Sports Superheroes Volume #1: Stephen Curry on August 13. Preorders are currently being accepted anywhere books are sold.
