On Sunday, the NBA revealed that Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, along with DeMar DeRozan of the Chicago Bulls and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder, are the finalists for the Clutch Player of the Year Award.
Established before to the current NBA season, the award recognizes the player who “best comes through for his teammates in the clutch.”
The NBA defines clutch time as when there is a five-point margin of victory going into the last five minutes of play. With 189 points in 142.9 critical minutes while shooting 45.7% from three-point range and 49.6% from the field, Curry topped the NBA in clutch scoring.
A panel of NBA journalists and broadcasters selects awards to recognize accomplishments during the regular season. On Sunday, the league MVP, defensive player of the year, rookie of the year, sixth man of the year, most improved player, and coach of the year finalists were also revealed.MVP: Nikola Jokić (Denver Nuggets), Gilgeous-Alexander, and Luka Dončić (Dallas Mavericks).
Three players were named Defensive Players of the Year: Victor Wembanyama (San Antonio Spurs), Rudy Gobert (Minnesota Timberwolves), and Bam Adebayo (Miami Heat).
The Oklahoma City Thunder’s Chet Holmgren, the Charlotte Hornets’ Brandon Miller, and Wembanyama shared Rookie of the Year honors.
Malik Monk of the Sacramento Kings, Bobby Portis Jr. of the Milwaukee Bucks, and Naz Reid of the Minnesota Timberwolves are the Sixth Man of the Year.
Tyrese Maxey (Philadelphia 76ers), Alperen \engün (Houston Rockets), and Coby White (Chicago Bulls) are the players who have improved the most.
Coach of the Year: Chris Finch (Minnesota Timberwolves), Jamahl Mosley (Orlando Magic), and Mark Daigneault (Oklahoma City Thunder).
