Clutch Points states that Kay’La Hanson was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, on November 9, 1991.
After graduating from Legacy High School in 2010, she enrolled in Weber State University’s pre-med program in Ogden, Utah.
Hanson obtained a nursing degree from Nightingale College in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2014.
In addition to running her own beauty salon and being an entrepreneur, Hanson spent six years working as a registered nurse in a medical facility. She still makes time for her career in healthcare.
She owns two businesses: DIPPED, which is a cosmetic nail salon, and KASICS.
Hanson is presently enrolled in the University of Portland’s nurse practitioner program to pursue a doctorate.
The pair became college sweethearts after meeting while attending Weber State in their late teenage years.
The couple dated for ten years despite parting ways to pursue their careers—Hanson deciding to become a nurse, and Lillard moving up the professional basketball ladder.
Following Lillard’s proposal to his wife during the NBA All-Star weekend in Chicago, they became engaged in February 2020.
Damian’s plan to wed Kay’La represented a long-awaited, full-circle moment, since Hanson had backed Lillard from the start of his career.
Lillard talked openly about how he organized the surprise proposal in a joint 2021 interview with Kay’La for Ebony Magazine. He said, “I snuck all of my family and her family out to Chicago without her knowing.”
“I told her we were going to this new Valentine’s Day event that the NBA was hosting,” he said. When we arrived at the location, I had a wall covered in roses with the words “Will You Marry Me?”
Due to an abdominal injury in 2021, Lillard was unable to play for the entire season. Early in 2022, he underwent surgery and physical rehabilitation; the NBA player attributes his speedy recovery to his wife.
“My wife and kids contributed a lot to how strong I did in rehab,” he said in a March 2022 Yahoo! Sports interview, before continuing, “These precious moments with my wife.” She’s someone I can go out with. You grow so accustomed to having only partners.
In September 2021, the couple married in Santa Barbara, California, in front of close friends, family, and famous acquaintances.
The Sun reports that rappers Common and Snoop Dogg, along with a few of Lillard’s previous teammates, like Evan Turner and Tim Frazier, were among the well-known attendees.
David Vanterpool, a former assistant for the Portland Trail Blazers and Lillard’s mentor, was also present.
Damian Jr., who is five years old, is the first of Lillard and Hanson’s three children. They welcomed him in March of 2018.
The two-year-old twins that Hanson gave birth to in January 2021 are a daughter named Kali Emma Lillard and a son named Kalii Laheen Lillard.
While their names may be spelled similarly, Kali and Kalii have different pronunciations: Kali is pronounced Kay-ley, and Kalii is pronounced Kuh-lee.
Five days after his trade to the Bucks, on October 2, Damian Lillard filed for divorce.
In Clackamas County Circuit Court in Oregon, the Lillards filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for “the irremediable breakdown of their marriage.”
According to the documents obtained by the Willamette Week, Kay’La moved into a $2.7 million house in December 2022, while Lillard continued to live in the $7.7 million mansion owned by the couple.
‘Damian and his family ask that their privacy be respected during this sensitive time and presently have no further comment,’ stated Shawn Menashe, Lillard’s attorney, in a statement to the publication.
Huge crowds of Milwaukee Bucks supporters greeted Lillard at a welcome rally last Saturday.
In Milwaukee, he will partner with Giannis Antetokounmpo, and the team is anticipated to challenge for another championship after winning it all in 2021.
