FIA announces departure of CEO Natalie Robyn from her role

Robyn, who assumed the position in November 2022, played a pivotal role in President Mohammed Ben Sulayem’s endeavors to update the FIA’s organizational framework subsequent to his election as the head of the governing organization of motorsport at the conclusion of 2021.

During that period, Ben Sulayem maintained a firm stance regarding the appointment of a competent and seasoned manager to enhance the organization’s functioning, financial oversight, and governance.

In addition, the search for a CEO resulted in the selection of Robyn, who had previously been the CEO of Volvo Cars in Switzerland and possessed diverse managerial experiences at Daimler Chrysler and Nissan.

Robyn supervised a comprehensive overhaul of the FIA’s operational structure during her tenure, with the objective of streamlining processes and increasing efficiency.

Furthermore, she advocated for governance reforms aimed at augmenting the organization’s transparency and accountability.

An additional area of emphasis was financial stability, and Robyn’s endeavors played a role in establishing a more enduring financial foundation for the FIA.

“Performing in the role of CEO at the FIA has been an enormous privilege, and I am grateful to have directed a programme of restructuring and reform,” said the American.

“Now is the time to step away in the knowledge that the organisation is better placed for the challenges which lie ahead.

“I take great pride in my role in advancing the FIA’s transformation across both Sport and Mobility, and I am pleased to leave an organization comprised of a wonderful team of talented and dedicated individuals.”

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem added: “Natalie’s appointment was notable as the first CEO in the history of the FIA.

“She has contributed greatly to a wide-ranging re-organisation of our operational and management structure as well as our financial sustainability. On behalf of the FIA, I wish her well in her future endeavours.”

There have been a number of prominent departures from the FIA in recent months. Steve Nielsen, the sporting director, Tim Goss, the technical director for single-seaters, and Deborah Mayer, who resigned as the chair of the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission, all left the organization in the previous year.

Certain individuals in the F1 paddock will speculate, in light of Robyn’s departure, whether the executive’s desire to return to her professional roots is the only element to the tale.
