On Thursday night, the Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves square off in Game 6 of their Western Conference semifinal series. The Nuggets hope to finish off the Timberwolves.
After dropping the opening two games of the series, Denver has won three straight to take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series. Tuesday night’s 112-97 victory over the Timberwolves in Game 5 has put the Nuggets in an elimination round match.
The reigning champion Nuggets’ comeback has been spearheaded by Nikola Jokic. Jokic has scored 99 points in his last three games and scored 40 points in Game 5 on 15 of 22 shooting from the field.
What is Minnesota’s mindset following Jokic’s most recent spectacular performance?
Anthony Edwards, a guard with the Timberwolves, remarked, “I just laugh, man.” That’s my only option. I am not able to be angry.
“Because, guy, he’s good. He is the NBA’s top player and MVP. The past three games, he demonstrated it. Particularly in Game 5. I must present his flowers to him. I’m not sure what our next course of action is. That person was him (on Tuesday).
To force a winner-take-all Game 7, which would take place in Denver on Sunday, the Timberwolves would need to figure out a method to slow down Jokic.
The starting center for the Timberwolves and current Defensive Player of the Year, Rudy Gobert, stated that he and his colleagues must maintain their optimism. He remarked that whatever the coaches wrote on a white board would not matter as much as the team’s mental strategy.
“We need to maintain our composure,” Gobert stated. That seems to be the tale for us. We are aware that he is a unique player. We are confident that he will produce some amazing plays. However, we must persist. ..
In the latter half (on Tuesday), we became a bit too discouraged. We are unable to have that.
After trailing 0–2 in the series, including a 26–point thrashing in Game 2, Denver might have felt discouraged. Coach Michael Malone, though, gave his team a challenge by showing them quotes from national pundits who said that the series was virtually over after two games.
Since then, the Nuggets have outscored Minnesota by an average of 16.7 points each game.
“Our guys were committed to putting in a lot of effort to get back into this series,” Malone remarked. “I believe a major factor in our victory on Tuesday was that effort.” We moved the ball really well, as seen by our 30 assists. As we transitioned, we were given simple buckets.
It’s evident that we’re not happy. The hardest game of the season is always the one we have to travel to Minnesota to attempt to close it out.
The health of Timberwolves guard Mike Conley, who was sidelined on Tuesday due to right Achilles tendon pain, may be a significant influence. For Game 6, Conley’s status is unknown.
With 28.8 points per game in the playoffs this year, Jokic is leading the Nuggets. Michael Porter Jr. averages 17.4 points per game in the postseason, and Jamal Murray comes in second with 20.2 points.
Leading the Timberwolves in scoring in the playoffs, Edwards is averaging 30.6 points per game. Gobert is averaging 12.6 points, while Karl-Anthony Towns is in second place with 19.3 points.
