following just one collegiate season, during which he started six out of 25 games for the USC Trojans. It has been formally determined by Bronny James to enter the 2024 NBA Draft.
Considering that he isn’t even being considered as a possible lottery pick, this is an interesting choice. Indeed, on June 26th, LeBron James’ oldest son might not even be selected in the first round.
NBA insiders: Bronny James ought to continue his education
Some in the basketball community don’t think Bronny is quite ready to advance to the next level at barely 19 years old. At least some people have discreetly told ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith that.
“Everybody that I’ve spoken to says he’s not ready for the NBA. [They say] he should stay in college. Says he has some things to prove. They talk about his athleticism. They talk about his defensive prowess. They say he has potential. They say the younger brother Bryce has more potential.” – Stephen A. Smith
Although Bryce James is only a 16-year-old student at Sierra Canyon School, he is already 6-foot-6. Bryce might have more potential if he can continue to improve. But it’s not about Bryce, it’s about Bronny.
Teams are interested in Bronny because of his possible financial impact, even though his ceiling is uncertain. He can improve G-League attendance figures until he can demonstrate that he can earn playing time in the NBA.
LeBron and Bronny have been mentioned in the past as potential NBA teammates, and the Lakers own the 17th and 55th picks in the 2024 NBA Draft. If the interest is sincere, the Lakers will have to decide whether to risk losing out to a different team that is prepared to take a chance on LeBron’s son becoming a star, or whether it is worth it to select Bronny at the 17th pick.
Although it’s evident that some people doubt Bronny’s readiness, they have also acknowledged his potential. How much that potential is worth is the question.
