Denver Nuggets Face Challenges Under New CBA in Offseason Roster Revamp
Denver, June 10, 2024 — Denver Nuggets President Josh Kroenke addressed the challenges of improving the team’s roster in the wake of the team’s exit interviews, acknowledging the hurdles posed by the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) rules. Despite the need for enhancements, Kroenke expressed confidence in the core lineup, particularly in the talents of Nikola Jokic and the starting five.
“The core of this team was assembled under a different CBA,” Kroenke noted. “We drafted, we developed, and we built this team under a different set of rules. Those rules have kind of changed on the fly. Last summer, it wasn’t quite as pertinent as it is going to be this summer, coming off of a championship and some of our contractual situations last summer. But we’re going to put our heads together and figure out how we can keep improving. We have the best player in the world. We think we still have the best starting five in basketball.”
Navigating the new CBA regulations will require strategic maneuvering from the Nuggets’ front office. While maintaining the starting five is a top priority, the team faces constraints in making necessary improvements.
“But there is going to be some constraints coming in with the new collective bargaining agreement and the new rules that we’re going to have to be very aware of and we have to plan accordingly,” Kroenke emphasized. “They do make it difficult to re-tool a championship roster on the fly.”
As the Nuggets gear up for the offseason, the spotlight is on bolstering the bench to complement the formidable starting lineup. How the team navigates these challenges remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: strengthening the bench will be a key focus in the upcoming offseason.
With the Nuggets striving to maintain their competitive edge in the highly competitive NBA landscape, the offseason promises to be a critical period for strategic planning and roster adjustments.
