The Denver Nuggets and point guard Jamal Murray are negotiating an agreement that would keep Murray in the city for the foreseeable future. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Murray and the Nuggets are in negotiations for a four-year deal extension for up to $209 million.
According to Charania, Murray will be presented with a deal by the Nuggets during the offseason. It is believed that both parties will accept the terms.
Murray, who was selected by Denver with the seventh overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, has been a vital member of the Nuggets for the last several seasons and has been a reliable starter since 2019. In 2019, he inked a $170 million, five-year contract deal with Denver.
Murray led the squad in scoring this season with a career-high 21.2 points per game, which is second only to current NBA MVP Nikola Jokić. Murray also averaged 4.1 rebounds and 6.5 assists.
Murray’s recovery from an ACL tear caused him to miss the 2021–2022 season. The Canadian guard helped lead the squad to an NBA championship after he resumed play in 2022–2023. In the Nuggets’ 4-1 series win over the Miami Heat in the Finals, Murray was crucial in multiple games, including a 30-point triple-double in Game 3.
