ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Denver Nuggets have traded veteran point guard Reggie Jackson and three second-round choices to the Charlotte Hornets. As Wojnarowski pointed out, this is a salary move by Denver, who are looking for cap relief in the face of the NBA’s new, extremely restricted CBA.
Jackson was acquired by the Nuggets at the 2023 trade deadline after being traded by the Los Angeles Clippers to the Hornets, who had just acquired him again. Denver was able to sign Jackson after Charlotte released him, so it would be fascinating to see whether the Hornets adopt the same route this time.
Jackson played in all 82 games for the Nuggets last season, averaging 10.2 points and 22.2 minutes per game. Jackson also started 23 games for Denver last season, often filling in for point guard Jamal Murray as he dealt with various injuries.
Charlotte appears to be considering releasing Jackson again and allowing him to enter free agency. In that case, it will be intriguing to see if Jackson piques the curiosity of other league rivals. While Jackson struggled in Denver, he also had several memorable moments and was a popular locker room presence as a veteran teammate and leader.
