Just one week after the Dallas Mavericks officially announced the signing of four-time champion and future Hall of Famer Klay Thompson to a three-year, $50 million deal, Thompson is already trying to win over Mavs fans.
Thompson, who wore a throwback Mitchell & Ness Dirk Nowitzki jersey, worked out with Jordan Lawley this week. Lawley is a private basketball trainer who assists Zach LaVine, Hailey Van Lith, and Patrick Beverley, among others. Some Mavs supporters would be thrilled to see the retro style and colors worn again, even though the team hasn’t worn them since the late ’90s.As a longtime admirer and gushing fan of Nowitzki’s, Thompson has previously gushed over him, referring to him as the “Splash God” and “One of the greatest shooters of all time” in the jersey retirement video. On the same night in 2022 when Dirk Nowitzki’s jersey was retired, the Warriors took on the Mavericks.
Showing your support for Dirk Nowitzki, the inarguable best player in Mavericks history, is surefire method to win over the fanbase. The Mavs had one of the best championship runs in NBA history in 2011 thanks to Nowitzki, who also won MVP in 2007 and guided the team to 50 wins or more in eleven consecutive seasons in the 2000s. After Dallas came so close to winning it all this season before falling short to the Boston Celtics, it would be great if Thompson could continue Nowitzki’s legacy and lead the Mavericks to another title.
